Two Bricks Short of a Load
Tiffany August 5, 2020 Blogging (9) Comments

So about last week, I just had a lot going on, and I didn’t have a blog post in me, to be honest. It was just an off week, and then yesterday happened, I was sick and after work, I just slept. If I ever need to skip or need time, I will post about it on twitter or here. So, I won’t just disappear.

So, recently, my mother came to visit, and she didn’t only bring herself. She also brought her conspiracy theories that everyone has to hear about the whole time that she was here. She is one of those Know-it-alls that know nothing, so if you mention something and how you deal with it, or whatever, you best believe that she will tell you against your will how you have to deal with it and how you are doing it wrong. Just being honest, I always ignore her especially when she does this, 100% tune her out. While I would normally suggest staying away from these types, it’s kind of hard when it’s your family.

She is not all there, and this is something that I remember from a very young age and some of the not normal things that she had done. So, it’s been a slow progression to now. Sadly, her hoarding is one of the more normal activities that she has.

Of course, I am sure you can see where I am going with this. The whole time down here she kept going on and on about how masks were stupid, you know despite her daughters who were all wearing them. She went into places that required masks without wearing one. Then, when I have seen it enforced, she wouldn’t wear it correctly. She kept going on a tirade about how this (COVID-19) was all going to disappear when November rolled around. We all internally rolled our eyes at this. My little sister said that she is going to remind her in November when it’s still here. Knowing her she will probably forget she said that.

I feel like I mentioned this on the site before but I’m not sure 100%, however, she thinks that the Chinese did this on purpose, or that they made it up. She also believes that this was made up by the liberals as well (despite the fact that her daughters are liberal) are doing this on purpose to make cheeto look bad and that COVID-19 is no worst than the flu. All the facts about testing and the deaths are fake and they are putting COVID-19 on the death certificate to get more money. Then, she also thinks this is apart of the new world order, so basically she is a psychopath. Also, all this crap that she believes doesn’t even make sense.

Like in my post Know-it-alls that know nothing I do not argue with her because arguing with her is like yelling at a brick wall and hoping that it will move. It’s just a lost cause tbh.

Luckily, she is home for now, so I can love her from a distance.

So, my question this week is yall have any crazies in your family?

We don’t have the kind of crazy your mother is, but my family does have a relative (third of fourth-grade cousin or something like that)…it’s actually a couple, and they’re religious fanatics – the bad kind. To give you a quick example, one day me and my mum met that couple at the supermarket. The husband started asking me why I’m not married and don’t have children and lectured me on the fact I should follow the Bible’s teachings and “procreate” (he offered to introduce me to some men that would help me in that) – he used that exact term – like he and his wife did giving birth to a brood of children….their brood bailed the moment they were legal to get as far away as possible from their parents’ fanaticism.

Wow your mom sounds like one of my relatives! They think everything is a conspiracy, it’s awful. I can’t believe she thinks COVID is a conspiracy! I know a few people who have had family members pass away from it, it’s heartbreaking! I hate that she thinks she shouldn’t wear a mask. It’s not just to protect herself, but to protect others around her. I wear mine at all times whenever I’m in public.

Thanks for the comment on how to fix my blog comments! I’m still a little confused on where I should put everything and what I should add. Do I need to put my comments under my content? Thanks again!

I am sorry that your mother had to bring some of her theories – they can get pretty annoying when it’s out of control. Masks are absolutely needed – I mean it’s not going to cause a major inconvenience besides covering makeup at best. We need to do our parts to fight the virus, not only for other but ourselves too. Hope you don’t need to go through this again soon!

I don’t really have anyone in my family like that, except my grandmother maybe. But she’s more along the lines of being really superstitious and religious. She’s really a sweet person though so I don’t challenge her when she gets to spewing her stuff. Also, for a very religious person she’s not overly judgmental, she’s pretty open-minded.

I had a conversation about why the BLM movement exists with a very similar family member of my own tonight. I did try to argue my side for a few minutes until it hit me that nothing i was going to say was going to go in. I hope your mum has had a reality check before November comes along x

It’s a shame your mother doesn’t want to help protect herself and others by wearing a mask but I guess that saying is true, you can’t pick your family! 🙂

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend! 🙂

We definitely have crazies in the family to deal with, as well as well-meaning family members that share different opinions. As you said, it’s best not to argue. I know what I believe to be true and their ranting and raving isn’t going to change that – especially when there is no factual backing to what they’re telling me. I’ll keep wearing my mask and doing what I can to keep myself and those around me safe. That’s the best I can do in light of it all.

I am sorry to say this but your mother is terrible wrong. I hope she won’t have to experience this in order to convince herself because it would be terrible. Sadly, viruses and ilnesses appear and develop continuously.
I work in an hospital, we treat and we lost many pacients because of this virus and I meet and get to know people that think like your moter ever day. When I talk to them I usually ask them to think about HIV, how people were skeptics about using condoms and having safe sex and how that brought to a large escalation of contagions. It applies the same way now just that we are asked to wear masks in order to avoid spreading this virus. And to those skeptics about the possibility of a vaccine I ask them what they know about cervical cancer and the HPV virus and how the incidence of cases declined once girls and young women started getting vaccinated.
I know these know-it-all persons they can be intimidating especially if they are of a more respectable age but I believe that in these cases it is important to remind them that they really don’t know everything and that by using similar behaviors they will end up harming others.

Sounds like my mother! She thinks she knows everything too, haha. So frustrating that people think the entire thing is a conspiracy. Makes me lose a little bit of faith in humanity. I live in Canada, so I hear a lot less of the crazy, but there is still a little crazy here.

I hope you and your family are healthy and remain healthy. Stay strong during these difficult times. ♥
